## Install

- Mac: open the .dmg and drag OpnEarth into Applications.

- Windows: run the installer.

Check the [system requirements](https://opnearth.com/docs/requirements) first.

## The first launch

Early-access builds are not yet signed with a publisher certificate, so your computer asks you to confirm the first time you open OpnEarth.

- macOS 14 or earlier: Control-click OpnEarth in Applications and choose Open.

- macOS 15 or later: try to open OpnEarth once. Then open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

- Windows: when SmartScreen appears, click More info, then Run anyway.

After the first launch, OpnEarth opens normally. Updates do not show the warning again.

## Open a file

The start screen says No file open. To open a KML or KMZ file:

- Drag the file anywhere onto the window.

- Click Open file on the start screen.

- Choose File > Open…, or press Ctrl+O (⌘+O on a Mac).

On a Mac you can also double-click a KML or KMZ file in the Finder once OpnEarth has run once.

Lite works without an account. To use a paid plan, click Sign in in the title bar. Your browser opens, you confirm, and OpnEarth turns on your plan.

Once you are signed in, the full guide is in your account under Help.
